Profile of Imam Uzair Akbar

Imam Uzair Akbar was born in London, England and at an early age moved to Pakistan where he spent his youth in the pursuit of knowledge. At the age of eleven (11) he became a Quran Hafiz whilst studying in Raiwind, he then proceeded to study at various Maddarris throughout Pakistan.

He spent his final year as a student in Pakistan at Jamia Ashrafi in Lahore under the guidance of the late Moulana Musa Khan (r.a.) where, at the age of twenty-four (24), he graduated as an Alim.

In June 1996, shortly after graduating as an Alim and under great scrutiny, he was appointed as the full-time Imam of the Holland Park Mosque. At the age of twenty-four (24), he became the youngest full-time Imam ever, in the Mosque’s long history.

His young age, extensive knowledge of Islam along with his great command of the English language has seen a great emergence in the congregation of the Mosque. He has even gained the attention of the illustrious Mufti Taqi Usmani.

Amongst the increase in the congregation at Holland Park Mosque was the rapid rise in the number of youth attending the Mosque. The Imam established unique Youth programs and activities which the younger members of the community found most appealing. Some of these activities included camping trips to the nearby islands, sporting events and special youth talks.

The Imam’s greatest talent is, by far, the ability to convey his vast knowledge to the audience in a most motivating and appealing manner to the extent in which it is a pleasure to listen to him. He has the skill to move the audience who walk away from his talks motivated and with an increased knowledge. As a consequence, Imam Uzair is the most popular Islamic speaker in Brisbane and is great demand to give talks about Islam not only locally, but both nationally and internationally.

He is called upon be the State and Federal Police, Australian Army and other organised establishments to give an insight into Islam and liaises with Schools, Churches, Universities and other such groups. He is a founding board member of the Mujlis Ulema Australia (Queensland), whose main responsibility is to give the religious directives, guidance and advice in Queensland.

The Imam has travelled extensively throughout the world for the sake of Deen and Islam and has travelled to America, England, Malaysia, South Africa, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Fiji, Vanuatu, Pakistan and India.

Imam Uzair is constantly striving for knowledge, especially from the greatest living Islam scholars in the world today. Some of the great Islamic scholars he has met are also some of the greatest living Muslim identities in today's world, which include Mufti Taqi Usmani, Sheik Ul Hadith Fida Ur Rahman Dar Khasti, Sheik Safraaz Saftar, Sheik Ahmed Laat and Sheik Tariq Jameel.

The Imam says his greatest achievements include converting people to Islam, becoming a Hafiz and Alim, performing Haj, meeting with the noble Mufti Taqi Usmani, becoming the Imam of Holland Park Mosque and meeting with some of the greatest Islamic scholars in the world.

Imam Uzair is a keen sports enthusiast, he is an avid cricket player and a passionate and determined golfer. When he is not busy spending time in Imamat duties, the Imam can often be seen practicing his golf swings.
